Madekwe comes from a multicultural family. Born in South London. The father of her is Nigerian and Swiss, while her mother is English. She was born on a South London community estate, and at the age of 14she enrolled in The Brit School. In London, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in which her acting diploma was earned. She performed in various stages during her high school days, including the King Henry V and Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe began her acting career in the movie Storm Damage. Since then she has appeared in Teachers and Doctors. Madekwe landed her first motion picture in the 2007 Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. In the following year she portrayed Elisha (a BBC Three drama-pilot) in West 10 LDN. Additionally she was a part of Trexx as Ollie and in six episodes of Flipside. In 2008, the actress was offered Bambi as the main character on ITV2's show Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe also played the title character in How to lose friends & betray people, which was released by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2008. She was also as a character in Little Sweet Thing, by Roy Williams, and Flight Path written directed by David Watson.
Madekwe was cast as Ashley Davenport on ABC's show The Beautiful Life. The two-episode show aired only for the duration of two weeks The CW and then it ended. In February of 2011 she was cast in the role of Ashley Davenport in the ABC drama series Revenge. In May of 2013, it was announced that Madekwe, who played a regular role in the two previous seasons, was to leave the series after a guest-appearance in the premier episode of the season's new episode. She was Tituba in the program Salem between 2014 and 2016. Madekwe, her long-time companion, Iddo, married Madekwe in June of 2012. Ashley Leggat, an actress that was nominated two times for a Gemini Award, is a member of a large Hamilton family.
